Complementary Therapies

Many people in the UK use complementary therapies and the reasons for this are as varied as the treatments themselves. For some, it is a well-deserved hour of me-time, offering uninterrupted head space and little oasis of calm. This encourages a deep sense of relaxation and is a welcome break in our otherwise hectic lives.

For others, complementary therapies are used alongside conventional medicine, to help treat specific symptoms and to manage different health conditions.

Lynne is fully qualified in all areas of the treatments she offers and will invite you to complete a medical questionnaire to ensure it is safe for you to undergo the therapies on offer.

Indian Head Massage

Indian head massage is a massage of the head face, neck shoulders and upper arms, which works on the physical, mental and emotional aspects of the body.

Indian Head Massage can help improve blood circulation and lymphatic flow, increase the elimination of toxins and waste products and help reduce muscular tension.  It is especially good for relieving stress and tension.

The massage will last for around 40 minutes and involves the client sitting in a chair for the treatment. A variety of different movements are used, including application of deep kneading and compression movements over the neck, shoulder and scalp areas. The pressure points on the face are also gently stimulated and stroked, invoking in the client a feeling deep calm and relaxation.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a non-invasive complementary health therapy that can be effective in promoting deep relaxation and wellbeing.  Reducing stress in people’s lives can be key in optimising good health and building resilience. The theory of reflexology is that all the systems and organs of the whole body are mirrored or reflected in smaller peripheral areas, for example the feet, hands, ears and face.

The treatment is done on the therapy couch, and I work those reflex areas with my hand and fingers, aiming to bring those areas back to balance and therefore aiding the body to work as well as it can. Reflexology can be used safely alongside standard healthcare to promote better health for their clients.

Aromatherapy Massage

Massage using Aromatherapy essential oils.

Aromatherapy uses the aromatic plant essences, known as essential oils. The practice as used today originated in Europe and has been practiced here since the early 1900s. It is now finding popularity world-wide.

As Aromatherapists, we believe that the effects of the essential oils can be multiple

  • Physically, by their pharmacological effects on the systems of the body once absorbed.
  • Emotionally, by their effect on the brain via their interaction with the olfactory system.
  • Energetically (or spiritually) via their vibrational interaction with the energy flows within the body.

As a Clinical Aromatherapist, I choose a variety of essential oils to make a blend for each client’s massage, dependent on their needs, their health conditions and any contraindications that may have.   The massage is specific to each client.  The massage can be a light, relaxing treatment, or a deeper massage to help with pain relief.

Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique. The form of reiki practiced throughout the world today, also known as Usui reiki, was created by Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 20th century. It’s a complementary health approach. Reiki does not directly cure diseases or illnesses, but is used as a way to manage symptoms and improve general well-being.

During a reiki session, I place my hands either directly on you or just above you to bring about healing. The belief is that the treatment is able to stimulate your body’s natural healing abilities.

Reiki can help with the symptoms of stress and anxiety, can help improve sleep and promote general relaxation.
